Manufacturing Process Of SMO 254 Fittings
Forging
Using a forging machine to lower the outside diameter and bevel the pipe end or extension is one method of making forged fittings.
Rolling Wheel
The core is inserted into the pipe using butt weld fittings. After that, processing the rim and pushing the exterior with a roller.
Stamping
Expand the pipe end in the punching machine to the desired size and shape by using a tapered core.
Bending
for creating bend and elbow fits. There are three typical approaches. There are three or four rollers: one is for stretching, one for stamping, and the third is for rolling.
Bulging
A rubber is inserted into the tube and compressed with a punch, causing the pipe to bulge; hydraulic bulging forming is an additional technique.

Chemical Composition of SMO 254 Fittings
SMO 254 or 6Mo is an austenitic high-alloy stainless steel known for its exceptional corrosion resistance. Typically composed of 20-22% chromium, 6-7% nickel, 0.18-0.22% nitrogen and molybdenum with small amounts of copper, tungsten, manganese added for good measure, additionally this alloy also has extremely low carbon levels (less than 0.02%) and iron, to preserve its austenitic structure and fight pitting and crevice corrosion in aggressive environments like seawater and acidic solutions.
Mechanical Properties of SMO 254 Fittings
SMO 254 fittings showcase impressive mechanical properties, such as high tensile strength typically between 650 to 850 MPa and yield strength between 300-350 MPa, yield strength typically falling within 300-350 MPa range and excellent elongation and toughness, exceeding 50% elongation and having impact energy absorption capabilities. Furthermore, their mechanical integrity remains consistent across temperature fluctuations making these fittings suitable for many industries such as chemical processing, oil & gas and marine environments.
Applications of SMO 254 Fittings
SMO 254 is an austenitic stainless steel that exhibits superior corrosion resistance in harsh environments like seawater. Fittings manufactured using this material have numerous applications where high corrosion and temperature resistance is paramount, including food processing industries that rely heavily on SMO 254. Here are a few commonly-utilized applications:
1. Chemical Processing: SMO 254 fittings have become ubiquitous within chemical processing industries where highly aggressive substances such as sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid, hydrochloric acid or other aggressive acids must be handled. They're especially suitable for applications involving sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid hydrochloric acid or any similar compounds.
2. Oil & Gas Industry: Within the oil & gas sector, SMO 254 fittings find application in pipelines, offshore platforms, and equipment handling corrosive fluids like hydrogen sulfide-containing gas (sour gas), brine, or seawater. Their resistance to chloride-induced stress corrosion cracking makes them perfect for offshore installations.
3. Food and Beverage Industry: SMO 254 fittings have long been utilized within the food and beverage industries for processing plants that use acidic or salty solutions, providing superior corrosion resistance that ensures product quality and safety.
4. Pharmaceutical Manufacturing: SMO 254 fittings are widely employed in processes involving the creation of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) and chemical compounds in pharmaceutical manufacturing processes, protecting product purity against corrosion caused by various chemicals used during these processes.
5. Water Treatment: SMO 254 fittings are widely utilized within water treatment facilities where aggressive disinfection and purification chemicals are utilized, protecting piping systems from corrosion while keeping integrity intact. They offer reliable protection in such hostile environments.
6. Mining and Metallurgy: SMO 254 fittings have applications in mining and metallurgical processes where harsh corrosive chemicals are employed for ore processing and metal extraction.
