A Duplex Steel Round Bar is a type of steel bar known for its unique combination of properties derived from the duplex stainless steel material it's made from. Duplex stainless steel contains a dual-phase microstructure consisting of approximately equal parts of austenite and ferrite phases, which impart exceptional strength, corrosion resistance, and toughness.
Manufacturing Process Of Duplex Steel Bars
Melting
The first step in the process is melting raw materials in an electric furnace. These raw materials are typically iron ore, chromium, nickel, and other elements in exact amounts.
Casting
After melting, the metal is put into molds to form slabs or billets. The processing of these first forms is then continued.
Hot Rolling
After being heated, the billets are shaped into long, thin rods by going through a series of rolling mills. Because the metal is heated above its recrystallization temperature during this operation, it is known as hot rolling.
Annealing
After that, the rods are annealed to reduce stress and enhance machinability. In order to do this, the rods must first be heated to a certain temperature and then gradually cooled.
Cutting
Lastly, shearing machines or other cutting techniques are used to cut the rods to the required length.
Duplex steel bars are available in a wide range of sizes to suit different applications and requirements. The Duplex steel bars sizes can vary depending on the diameter and length of the bars. Duplex steel bars can have diameters ranging from as small as 6mm (0.236 inches) up to larger diameters exceeding 300mm (11.8 inches) or more. Duplex steel bars typically come in standard lengths, often ranging from 3 meters (10 feet) to 6 meters (20 feet). However, custom lengths can also be available based on specific project needs.

Duplex Steel Round Bar Equivalent Grade
Duplex Steel Round Bar Equivalent Grade is a critical aspect that ensures compatibility and interchangeability across international standards. One commonly utilized grade is Duplex 2205, which is equivalent to UNS S32205 or S31803 in the United States. This grade exhibits a balanced dual-phase microstructure, comprising austenitic and ferritic phases, providing an optimal combination of strength and corrosion resistance. Internationally, it aligns with European standards as 1.4462 according to EN 10088-3. This ensures that Duplex Steel Round Bars manufactured to these specifications maintain consistent quality and performance characteristics, facilitating seamless integration into diverse industrial applications globally.
Chemical Composition of Duplex Steel Round Bar
The chemical composition of Duplex Steel Round Bars typically comprises a carefully balanced blend of elements, crucial for achieving its distinctive properties. Primarily composed of iron, duplex stainless steel incorporates significant amounts of chromium, typically ranging from 21% to 23%, which enhances its corrosion resistance, especially in harsh environments. Additionally, it contains approximately 4.5% to 6.5% nickel, contributing to its high strength and ductility. Molybdenum, present in quantities of around 2.5% to 3.5%, further improves corrosion resistance, particularly against chloride-induced pitting and crevice corrosion. Nitrogen, typically between 0.08% and 0.20%, aids in stabilizing the austenitic phase and enhancing mechanical properties. Other elements such as manganese, silicon, and carbon are also carefully controlled to optimize the microstructure and mechanical performance of duplex steel.
