Duplex steel pipe fittings are components used to connect, control, or redirect the flow of fluids in piping systems made of duplex stainless steel. Duplex stainless steel is a type of stainless steel that combines the properties of both austenitic and ferritic stainless steel, offering enhanced strength and corrosion resistance compared to traditional stainless steel.
Advantages of Duplex Steel Pipe Fittings:
Corrosion Resistance: Duplex steel pipe fittings offer excellent corrosion resistance, particularly in aggressive environments such as those containing chloride ions, making them suitable for use in chemical processing, marine, and oil and gas industries.
High Strength: Duplex stainless steel has higher strength compared to austenitic stainless steel, allowing for thinner walls and lighter-weight fittings while maintaining structural integrity.
Stress Corrosion Cracking Resistance: Duplex steel exhibits superior resistance to stress corrosion cracking, making it suitable for applications involving high pressures and corrosive environments.
Cost-Effectiveness: Although duplex steel pipe fittings may have a higher initial cost compared to some other materials, their longer service life and reduced maintenance requirements often result in overall cost savings over time.
Weldability: Duplex stainless steels typically have good weldability, allowing for ease of fabrication and installation of pipe fittings.

Manufacturing Process Of Duplex Fittings
Forging
Using a forging machine to lower the outside diameter and bevel the pipe end or extension is one method of making forged fittings.
Rolling Wheel
The core is inserted into the pipe using butt weld fittings. After that, processing the rim and pushing the exterior with a roller.
Stamping
Expand the pipe end in the punching machine to the desired size and shape by using a tapered core.
Bending
for creating bend and elbow fits. There are three typical approaches. There are three or four rollers: one is for stretching, one for stamping, and the third is for rolling.
Bulging
A rubber is inserted into the tube and compressed with a punch, causing the pipe to bulge; hydraulic bulging forming is an additional technique.

Duplex Steel Pipe Fittings Size Chart
Below is a typical size chart for Duplex Steel Pipe Fittings, showcasing common dimensions for various types of fittings. However, it's important to note that actual size availability may vary depending on manufacturers and specific project requirements. Additionally, some fittings may have custom or non-standard sizes based on the application.
This chart includes the nominal pipe size (NPS), outside diameter (OD), and commonly used schedules (wall thickness) for duplex steel pipe fittings. The schedules mentioned (e.g., 10, 40) represent standard pipe schedules according to ASME B36.10 for welded and seamless pipes.
For fittings such as elbows, tees, reducers, and couplings, the dimensions may vary based on factors such as pressure rating, end connections (e.g., threaded, socket weld, butt weld), and specific standards (e.g., ANSI, ASTM, ASME).
Duplex Steel Pipe Fittings Equivalent Grades
Duplex steel pipe fittings are available in various international standards, with equivalent grades ensuring interchangeability and global compatibility. For instance, ASTM A182 F51 and F60 are commonly used grades, which are equivalent to UNS S31803 and UNS S32205, respectively. These grades comply with the ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials) standard. In European standards, duplex steel pipe fittings may be designated as 1.4462 under EN 10088-3, equivalent to X2CrNiMoN22-5-3 in DIN (German Institute for Standardization). Moreover, in the British Standard (BS), duplex steel fittings may be referred to as grades such as 318S13 or 318S13A, which align with the British EN standard. These equivalent grades ensure that duplex steel pipe fittings meet the required chemical composition and mechanical properties across different regions, facilitating seamless integration into various piping systems worldwide.
Chemical Composition of Duplex Pipe Fittings
The chemical composition of duplex pipe fittings typically consists of a balanced mixture of austenitic and ferritic stainless steel elements. Common grades of duplex stainless steel used in pipe fittings include UNS S31803 (also known as Alloy 2205) and UNS S32205. The balanced combination of these alloying elements results in duplex stainless steel pipe fittings with superior corrosion resistance, high strength, and excellent mechanical properties, making them suitable for use in demanding environments such as offshore oil and gas production, chemical processing plants, desalination facilities, and more.
Mechanical Properties of Duplex Pipe Fittings
The mechanical properties of duplex pipe fittings are crucial considerations in their selection and application. Duplex stainless steels typically exhibit a unique combination of mechanical characteristics derived from their dual-phase microstructure, which consists of both austenite and ferrite phases.
Firstly, duplex pipe fittings boast enhanced strength compared to conventional austenitic stainless steel. This increased strength allows for the use of thinner-walled fittings without sacrificing structural integrity, leading to potential weight savings and cost-effectiveness in applications where weight reduction is a priority.
Moreover, duplex stainless steels offer excellent toughness and impact resistance, making them suitable for applications subjected to dynamic loading or low-temperature environments. This toughness helps prevent brittle fractures and ensures the reliability and safety of the piping system, particularly in harsh operating conditions.
